Nov 4 2007 Ian Smith Reports
Berwick 1 Ayr 1
NEW BERWICK boss Michael Renwick says an injury crisis could make Division Two survival a bigger mountain to climb.
His men collected their first point in six games thanks to Iain Diack's second-half strike but Renwick claims testing times lie ahead.
He said: "With so many players out injured I will have to look at strengthening the squad.
"The problem is, I may not be in a position to make any definite moves until the January window."
Ayr took the lead in seven minutes when Ryan Stevenson turned to fire home Jerome Vareille's cross from close-range.
The equaliser came in 49 minutes when Mark McGeown could only parry Diack's header back to the Berwick man who duly fired in.
Late on in the second half, Ayr nearly snatched the points when Vareille's clever chip drifted narrowly wide of the post.
Ayr gaffer Brian Reid admitted it would have been tough on Berwick had Vareille's effort gone in.
He said: "If we had gone home with three points it would have been a bit of a steal."
