DISAPPOINTED Diamonds boss Kenny Black described his side's display as "shambolic" despite notching their second straight win.
Allan Russell tapped home the only goal in the first half but Black still tore a strip off his United troops after the match.
He said: "I was happy with the result but our performance was shambolic at times. Our passing was careless and we were particularly disappointing in the second half. It's difficult to take many positives from the game."
The visitors started on the front foot and almost raced ahead after three minutes as Kevin McDonald's 25-yarder fizzed inches past the left-hand post.
Billy Stark's side showed their threat soon after as Mark Ferry cushioned a delightful header to Steve Canning but he blazed his volley high and wide.
Russell wasted a glorious chance on the half hour but he didn't have to wait long to make amends as he arrived at the back post to meet Stuart Noble's cross to make it 1-0 in 38 minutes.
Queen's upped their game after the break and Airdrie keeper Stephen Robertson was forced to pull out two super stops to deny Canning and Ferry.
Spiders went agonisingly close to drawing level in 76 minutes when Canning's low drive was superbly saved by Robertson.
Frustrated Queen's boss Billy Stark said: "We dominated the second half but we lack a real finisher and that showed today."
