Morton 2-1 Stirling

MORTON skipper Stewart Greacen savoured their first home league win in six months - but was still raging at losing a late goal.

The former Cappielow captain was praised for a superb showing by boss Davie Irons but admitted: "I was so disappointed to lose the goal at the end - it would have been nice to keep a clean sheet.

"But we've still got the points, that's what counts most."

Irons said: "It was a big game for us and I'm delighted with the result.

"And we needed it - there's no doubt about it.

"Greacen was immense, he did really well. And credit to Iain Russell, his head could have gone down after missing a penalty."

Morton skipper Peter Weatherson cracked the bar in just 11 minutes with a superb 25-yard free-kick.

However, the Greenock side took the lead in 22 minutes when Allan Jenkins netted his first goal for the club since joining from Gretna. He slotted home from six yards after good work by Chris Millar. Morton should have added a second before the break when Paul Nugent felled Weatherson. But Myles Hogarth saved Russell's spot-kick.

Russell made it 2-0 in 72 minutes with a header from Kevin Finlayson's cross before sub Jay Rodriguez hit a late consolation for the Binos.

Albion boss Allan Moore said: "They took their chances and we didn't - simple as that."
