Qos 2 Hamilton 1
GUTTED Hamilton keeper Bryn Halliwell last night admitted they only had themselves to blame after slumping to a bizarre defeat.
Two second-half own-goals in as many minutes from Mark McLaughlin and the Accies' No.1 himself earned battling Queens a surprise win over the league leaders after they had fallen behind to James McCarthy's early opener.
It was an unlikely victory for Gordon Chisholm's troops but one that was enough to move them off the foot of the table.
Halliwell moaned: "We can't believe it. That was mental. We should have had the game killed off before Queens scored but we let them back into the match.
"It was a game we know we should have won - that is the most disappointing thing. We looked comfortable all over the park but have come away with nothing."
Accies took the lead inside 90 seconds. Mark Gilhaney found McCarthy whose midfield run hadn't been tracked and he finished clinically.
The visitors had the better chances with James McArthur's shot hitting the post and home keeper Jamie MacDonald denying Richard Offiong.
Queens equalised in the 66th minute when Bob Harris' throw was fumbled by Halliwell and the ball was deflected into the net by McLaughlin.
The winner arrived soon after. Sub Brian Gilmour's drive hit the post and struck the Accies' keeper on the back before rolling home.
Queens gaffer Chisholm beamed: "The early goal rocked us and we didn't recover in the first half. But after the break we worked hard."
Accies boss Billy Reid said: "We controlled the game. I can't have a go at the boys because we played well but a mad minute has cost us."
