Nacho's Cup Quest Is A Missing Medal Mission

NACHO NOVO is desperate to get his hands on the Scottish Cup this season to complete a full set of domestic winners' medals with Rangers.

In his three and a half years at Ibrox the Spaniard has tasted SPL glory and lifted the CIS silverware but so far the biggest cup prize has eluded him.

Ironically it was against the Light Blues that he went closest to winning the trophy when Gers beat his former club Dundee 1-0 in the 2003 final.

Now as the road to Hampden begins for the Ibrox club with their rearranged fourth-round tie against East Stirling in midweek, Novo is setting his sights on adding the missing medal to his collection.

The 28-year-old, who signed a new two-year deal at Gers last month, said: "I've won the title and the CIS Cup but never the Scottish Cup. I played for Dundee in the final in 2003 which is the closest I've been. I thought we had a great chance to win.

"I came on in the second half and missed a chance. I've thought about that a few times since then and wondered what might have been.

"It could have helped Dundee win the cup so it was a major disappointment. I hope to make up for that and win the Scottish Cup this season."

Novo must first nail down a first-team place to make sure he gets a game - and a medal - if Rangers make the final. And the forward is confident he can force his way into the starting 11 as long as he remembers to stop moaning at his fellow players.

Nacho said: "I must work hard to get back my position but the big change for me is that I used to moan a lot. Now experience has come and I think more for the team rather than for myself."
