Andreas won't believe hype

AUSTRIAN ace Andreas Ivanschitz admits his side's success at Euro 2008 will depend on how they handle the pressure of being co-hosts.

As tension builds before their opening Group B game against Croatia in Vienna this evening, expectation levels have increased among the home support.

Many pundits have tipped Andreas Herzog's men to be the whipping boys of the competition and captain Ivanschitz (right) knows a good start against the Croats is crucial.

The Panathinaikos midfielder said: "You can feel the pressure now.

Some people are getting a little nervous and it's important we take it easy and don't get caught up in the hype. Mistakes will happen but it's vital we don't panic.

"We can beat Croatia. Their central defence is vulnerable and our quick strikers can hurt them."

Manager Herzog agreed with his skipper that the Austrians must control their emotions.

He said: "The public will want us to attack but finding the right balance is the key.

"We must put pressure on Croatia but can't get too enthusiastic. This game is the most important one. We need a good start because Germany are our most dangerous opponents."
