Germany 2-1 Serbia

MICHAEL BALLACK insisted there's much more to come from Germany after grabbing the winner in last night's Euro 2008 warm-up.

The Germans looked to be heading for a morale-sapping defeat when they trailed to Bosko Jankovic's opener in Gelsenkirchen.

But veteran Oliver Neuville came off the bench to grab the leveller just 15 minutes from time before Chelsea star Ballack won it with a fantastic free-kick.

Joachim Low's men are one of the favourites for Euro 2008 and Ballack insists they will be firing on all cylinders in their Group B opener with Poland next Sunday.

The midfield ace said: "We wanted to win as it would not have been great to lose our last friendly before the finals.

"Every player still has a lot to give and we can get better."

Gaffer Low is also looking for improvement in his troops but was pleased with last night's result.

He said: "This win is good for the morale, security and self-confidence.

"We had to go to our limits. There is still room for improvement but I am sure we will do that.

"I get the feeling all the players will be reaching their peak next week."

But Low reckons Ballack is already on fire and hopes his skipper's fine run of form continues in the finals.

He said: "Michael drives the entire team on and is in great physical shape."

Ballack almost grabbed the opener after 15 minutes but his header from a Mario Gomez cross was cleared off the line by Nemanja Vidic.

The Germans fell behind four minutes later as Serbia hit them with a stunning counter-attack.

Sasa Ilic and Marko Pantelic helped send Jankovic one-on-one with Jens Lehmann and he slotted through the keeper's legs for the opener.

Serbia frustrated the Germans after the interval before sub Neuville finally popped up to slot home a cross from left-back Marcell Jansen.

Germany pushed forward and grabbed the winner eight minutes from time after Branislav Ivanovic chopped down the onrushing Jansen.

Ballack stepped up and sent a superb free-kick into the top corner to seal victory.

Happy Serbian boss Miroslav Djukic said: "We gave the Germans problems and I'm pleased with the performance."
