Striker Chris can't wait to be a full cap

HUNGRY Wolves hitman Chris Iwelumo reckons he can add more firepower to Scotland's World Cup charge if he lands a senior call-up.

The 30-year-old has bagged four goals in his last two games for the Championship side and was top scorer at Charlton last season before moving to Molineux.

He hopes that impressive form has caught George Burley's eye with Scotland's Group Nine campaign kicking off with a double-header against Macedonia and Iceland next month.

Coatbridge-born Iwelumo earned a Scotland B cap last term and is desperate to make the step up to World Cup qualifying.

He said: "I'm Scotland through and through. If I'm doing the right things for Wolves the national door will open.

"The game against Ireland B last November was my first experience of international football.

"I did get into the squad for the tour of South Korea in 2002 but Stoke wouldn't let me go because we were in the play-offs.

"Everyone wants to represent their country and it was an emotional time when I wore the Scotland No.9 shirt."

Iwelumo's dad is Nigerian and the Africans took a look at him while he was playing for Stoke. But the striker claims he would have turned Nigeria down to pursue his Scotland dream.

He said: "I would have chosen Scotland anyway. All my family are Scottish and it would be great if I got a full cap."

Iwelumo started his career at St Mirren but moved to Danish club Aarhus as a teenager to further his career.

He said: "I was only 19 when I left. St Mirren offered me a two-year contract but I really wanted to leave.

"I enjoyed Denmark and played there for a season before Stoke bought me back.

I wouldn't change it for anything."
