DARREN JACKSON insists Scotland are in with a shout of qualification for the 2010 World Cup Finals because they have talented players willing to get stuck in.
There is no room for prima donnas in gaffer George Burley's set-up - just like it was when striker Jackson played for his country a decade ago.
He said: "I played in the 1998 World Cup in France and to start for your country against Brazil in the first game was incredible.
"We had some exceptional players at that time and it was a talented squad.
"But we all still gave 100 per cent and rolled up our sleeves for every game.
"The current players do the same. They get in about it and that's helped them do well in recent years.
"I enjoy watching the likes of James McFadden, Darren Fletcher and Barry Ferguson.
"Kenny Miller's goals could also be vital in the forthcoming World Cup campaign.
"Burley has inherited a good bunch and I'm sure he'll keep the confidence and spirit going."
Jacko's old team-mate Gordon Durie agrees there are clear comparisons between the squad of 1998 and today's side.
And he believes Burley is capable of steering them to a place in South Africa.
Speaking at Tennent's launch of their "Show Your Support" campaign at Hampden this week, he said: "After the last two managers gave the whole country a lift, there was always going to be a wee bit of pressure on George.
"But the performance against Croatia in his first game was good and something to build on.
"I was lucky to play at a couple of major tournaments and this is what this squad will be striving for.
"Expectation levels have been lifted and George will know that. But I still think we can qualify.
"It's important to get off to a good start and if we can get wins against Macedonia and Iceland that could set us up for qualification."
