Buffel aims for Belgium

RANGERS reject Thomas Buffel is aiming to win his place back in the Belgian national side after quitting the SPL.

The 27-year-old midfielder signed for Cercle Brugge in his homeland last week after being frozen out by Ibrox boss Walter Smith.

Buffel was overlooked for his country for nearly two years while in Scotland.

Now he hopes regular first-team action with Cercle will impress Belgium head coach Rene Vandereycken.

Buffel said: "I will firstly concentrate on performing for my club. Then I will hope to play for the national team."
