ROMA survived a second-half collapse to pile the pressure on leaders Inter with a 3-2 win over Genoa last night.
Luciano Spalletti's side closed the gap at the top to just one point but were made to sweat after blowing a 2-0 lead.
Early strikes from Rodrigo Taddei and Mirko Vucinic had them coasting at the Stadio Olimpico but Genoa hit back with second-half efforts from Marco Rossi and Julio Cesar Leon.
It looked like Roma were going to lose a crucial two points but they were given a lifeline with 10 minutes left.
Marco Borriello fouled Taddei inside the area and Daniele De Rossi stepped up to score the winner from the spot.
Relieved De Rossi said: "All we can do is keepwinning games and hope that Inter don't do the same."
Inter can restore their four-point lead with a win at ninth-placed Atalanta today.
In last night's other game AC Milan kept their faint hopes of a Champions League place alive with a 3-1 win over Calgiari.
Kaka and Pippo Inzaghi had Milan two up by half-time at the San Siro before Daniele Conti pulled one back.
But Inzaghi soon put the result beyond doubt as he bagged his second.
