JOEKINNEAR steered Newcastle to a gutsy draw against the big guns then revealed his stay at St James' Park has been extended by another month.

Interim gaffer Kinnear has steadied the ship after a dismal start to the season and club owner Mike Ashley has asked him to stay at the helm until at least January.

Kinnear said: "The deal was to be in charge until the club was sold and nothing has changed."

Chelsea misfired in front of goal and Toon keeper Shay Given was in inspirational form.

But Blues boss Luiz Felipe Scolari said: "Newcastle were good. I congratulated their coach and his team.

They had a strategy to draw and it worked."
