CHELSEA boss Luiz Felipe Scolari admitted Nicolas Anelka is now his top gun after the Frenchman fired the Blues back to the top of the table.
Anelka (left) has emerged from the shadow of Didier Drogba this term and took his season's tally to 12 with a double against the Baggies. His two cool finishes sealed a record 10th successive away league win after Jose Bosingwa's stunning long-range effort opened the scoring.
Drogba was left on the bench after his coin-throwing controversy in the midweek Carling Cup defeat by Burnley and Scolari admits he can't drop Anelka in this kind of devastating form.
The striker has netted eight times in his last four games and Scolari said: "Nicolas has played almost every game and he has more confidence.
"He not only plays inside the area but also outside. Nicolas is fast and now that he has confidence he will score more."
Chelsea skipper John Terry picked up a foot injury late on and Scolari said he could be out for a few weeks. He said: "Tomorrow the doctor will do a scan and after that we will see what's happened. It's a blow."
West Brom competed well until Bosingwa netted in 34 minutes. The full-back cut in from the right and took Scott Carson by surprise as he sent a leftfoot strike curling into the top corner.
Anelka hit the second four minutes later when he raced clear from a Florent Malouda flick and dinked over Carson.
And he killed the game off as a contest in first-half injury time with a superb low strike from 12 yards.
Gutted West Brom boss Tony Mowbray said: "Against the top teams you're putting your finger in the dyke at times."
