SUNDERLAND boss Roy Keane has backed Russell Anderson to bounce back from his horror injury.
The ex-Aberdeen star is out for the rest of the season after damaging his knee while on loan at Burnley.
Anderson has played once for Sunderland since he quit Pittodrie in 2007 and hoped to impress Keane during his time at Turf Moor.
And the Black Cats boss, who suffered a serious knee injury during his time at Manchester United, admitted he was devastated for the Scotland defender.
Keane said: "I spoke to the surgeon and Russell and it's a blow for the lad but these things happen in football.
"He's had a nightmare time since joining us after suffering a serious ankle injury in a cup game against Luton. But this is a real test of the player's character.
"He'll get the full support of this club and the best medical help available."
