O'Shea: Boss will go to market

English Action

JOHN O'SHEA predicts the revolving door at Manchester United will spin again next week - with a massive bigname signing strolling in.

Old Trafford gaffer Sir Alex Ferguson has been linked with moves for Dimitar Berbatov, David Villa, Karim Benzema and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

And defender O'Shea is sure his gaffer will pull off a big surprise in the transfer market before the start of the new season.

Man U aren't short of star names but the Irishman reckons the pressure to win silverware remains intense on Fergie and his men.

And too many top-team picks are struggling for fitness.

United's plight will be put in full focus at today's Community Shield clash with Portsmouth at Wembley when Nani, Michael Carrick and GaryNeville look set to play despite being short of full fitness.

Meanwhile injury-plagued Louis Saha looks set for an exit from the club if Fergie splashes the cash.

O'Shea said: "We need to keep improving again.

"Whether big names come or go it is about United moving on. That will always be the case. We must keep winning and I am sure he will have a few ideas in mind.

"The deadline is a few weeks away yet so we might have a new face or two."

It looked during the summer as if Cristiano Ronaldo would be on his way out - but the Portugal star reported back for training on Friday.

He will bolster a side that will be padded out with young players.

Brazilian kids Rafael Da Silva, brother Fabio and Rodrigo Possebon could all find a place on the bench.

Portsmouth have their own injury worries with several players out of action with illness after their trip to Nigeria.

Lassana Diarra and Sean Davis face tests on respective ankle and hip injuries.

Red Devils captain Neville still anticipates a tough fight - and says Pompey could become top four fixtures in the Premiership.

He said: "Harry Redknapp has done a fantastic job and they can push on from winning the FA Cup to challenge for the top four. They are a side with great strength and some hugely-skilful players."
