GUTTED Martin O'Neill slammed his stuttering stars after a dire display left their Euro hopes in the balance.

The Villa boss was frustrated after an Antonio Valencia double saw off his UEFA Cup hopefuls.

He said: "We had a lot of confidence but the goals deflated us and the fans expect better. We were so flat."

Valencia fired in a 52nd minute opener to shock Villa before sealing the battling win 11 minutes later.
