POMPEY manager Harry Redknapp has hailed keeper David James as special as Cristiano Ronaldo.
James denied Ryan Taylor from the spot and saved well from Antoine Sibierski late on.
Redknapp said: "James is fantastic. Without a top keeper you're nothing and he's the best around.
"For me he's the Ronaldo of goalkeepers, someone who does something special.
Jermaine Defoe netted in 33 minutes and then again in injury time to seal the points.
Wigan boss Steve Bruce said: "James was superb but strikers make the difference."
