Man City 0-0 Wigan

FRUSTRATED City boss Sven Goran Eriksson admitted his troops lack a cutting edge after this dismal draw.

They failed to break down Wigan who earned a vital point in their battle for survival.

Eriksson said: "I had hoped for a better result but Wigan are difficult to break down.

"Of course we're concerned we can't score or break them down but the spirit and attitude is good."

The biggest culprit for the Eastlands side was transfer deadline-day signing Benjani who wasted two great chances.

He was slack with his control and allowed keeper Chris Kirkland to block a first-half one on one.

And the striker fired Darius Vassell's cross wide after the break when he should have at least hit the target.

But it could have been much better for Wigan had it not been for City No.1 Joe Hart.

Wilson Palacios was set up by Emile Heskey with nine minutes left but Hart saved and the midfielder fired the rebound over.

Wigan gaffer Steve Bruce said: "We'll take a point but we should have won it - we had some good chances."
