MARVIN ELLIOT'S first-half volley saw Bristol City climb up to second with a 1-0 win over Blackpool at Ashton Gate.

The midfielder pounced on ex-Hearts man Lee Johnson's cross to smash an unstoppable shot from outside the box into the bottom corner in 20 minutes.

Blackpool's best chance came on the hour when Stephen Crainey's free-kick crashed off the bar.

Elsewhere, Owen Coyle's Burnley are a point off the play-offs spots after first half goals from Robbie Blake and Ade Akinbiyi were enough to defeat Scunthorpe 2-0 at TurfMoor.

Blake struck in nine minutes after latching on to a mistake by Irons defender Shelton Martis. Akinbiyi headed in the second on the half-hour.
