DAVIE MOYES celebrated 10 years as a gaffer with a battling win as Joleon Lescott's first-half strike saw off City.
The Scot has been a roaring success in management since kicking off his career at Preston.
And he was delighted with Lescott's role in his anniversary win as Everton moved into fifth spot.
Moyes said: "It was good for Joleon after his own goal in the League Cup semi-final at Chelsea.
"That was his sixth of the season but the target should be 10 - like Tony Adams or Derek Mountfield used to get from the back."
Everton took the lead in 30 minutes when Mikel Arteta's cross was turned home by Lescott.
Keeper Tim Howard then made saves to deny Martin Petrov and Rolando Bianchi but City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson was furious with his side's sloppy display.
He said: "We hit long balls. If that's the way we're going to play we'll need to sell half our team."
