SPURS could be scared off by the £10million asking price for Rangers keeper Allan McGregor.
MailSport understands the Londoners are only willing to pay half that figure and want to whittle the fee down.
Tottenham are in the hunt for a goalie with Paul Robinson on the verge of a move to Premiership side Middlesbrough.
The England internationalist is set to switch to the Riverside for £4m and Spurs boss Juande Ramos doesn't want to shell out much more on a replacement.
Robinson's back-up Radek Cerny has also left for QPR so the Spanish coach must find two keepers for next season.
McGregor is contracted to Gers until September 2010 but Spurs are big admirers of the 26-year-old. And that could see a tug of war over the transfer fee similar to the one between the clubs for defender Alan Hutton in January.
Spurs kicked off with bids around £6m before finally landing him for £9m.
Meanwhile, former Aberdeen skipper Russell Anderson is set to fight for his Sunderland future after the Black Cats kicked out a bid from Plymouth.
The defender has played just one game for Roy Keane's side since his £1m move from Pittodrie due to injury.
But after a successful loan spell at Plymouth boss Paul Sturrock tried to buy him only to see a bid knocked back.
Agent Blair Morgan said: "At the end of the season Keane told a number of players they didn't have a future but didn't speak to Russell.
"He has taken from that he's still in the mix. Plymouth were pleased with Russell but Sunderland probably want their £1m back."
