WERDER Bremen moved into pole position in the race for an automatic Champions League place with a 2-0 home win over Energie Cottbus.

Goals from Swedish striker Markus Rosenberg and Portuguese hitman Hugo Almeida saw Bremen claim second place outright behind champions elect Bayern Munich.

Bremen pulled two points clear of third-placed Schalke who had to come from behind to claim a 1-1 draw against Hannover.
