PETERHEAD'S five-goal second-half demolition job was not enough to secure fourth place in the league - but still pleased their boss.
Neale Cooper's side did all that was asked of them yet Alloa's 2-1 win over Berwick kept the Recreation Park side in the final promotion play-off spot.
Blue Toon boss Cooper said: "We have a young team and it's been a joy working with them over the last few months.
"Obviously we're disappointed about not making the play-offs but our overall performance was brilliant."
The home side started brightly and took the lead after 20 minutes when Peterhead skipper Bobby Mann handled. David Goodwillie (left) slotted home from the spot.
The Blue Toon equalised in 53 minutes when Martin Bavidge steered his shot home and two minutes later they went ahead, Mann firing home a spot-kick awarded for an off-the-ball offence.
Rovers levelled in 61 minutes as sub Lee Bryce netted from close range but the visitors soon made it 3-2 when David Ross toe-poked home.
The same player cracked No.4 in 76 minutes before Graeme Sharp hit the fifth.
Rovers boss John McGlynn said: "We defended terribly at times. I don't even think it was a case of Peterhead being that good."
