Rangers face pitch battle at Firhill over rugby surface

RANGERS will be forced to play on a farcical Firhill pitch today after a rugby clash between Glasgow and Edinburgh left it in a sorry state.

Our pictures show how much the surface has been cut up by Friday night's Magners League rugby.

But Partick Thistle are hoping the poor conditions act as a leveller in the Cup replay and boss Ian McCall even wants to WATER the mudbath more.

McCall said: "When the pitch is wet it can still be OK - it's when it dries out that it becomes a nightmare.

"So we will be watering the surface to try to make it better.

"We're actually hoping it rains but not too much to get the game off.

"It must be a leveller - I don't think there's any doubt about that."
