Artur Boruc
Exclusive He Lands Whopping £5.5m Deal
ARTUR BORUC last night put pen to paper on a bumper new contract at Celtic to make him the highest paid player in Scottish football.
The Polish keeper ended weeks of negotiating by signing a deal until 2011 that will land him around s5.5million over the next three-and-a-half years.
And that will disappoint giants like AC Milan, Barcelona and Bayern Munich who have been watching him. Boruc (right) is delighted his future has been sorted and now aims to land a third successive SPL title.
He told MailSport: "I've had a lot of thinking to do and I'm delighted to still be at the club.
"Celtic have been good for me and I'd like to think I've been good for them. I'm committed to Celtic.
"If the interest in me continues then at least Celtic will be in a good position. They can either keep me or get a lot of money by selling.
"Now the discussions are over it's a weight off my mind. I can fully think about helping us win the league."
Hoops chief executive Peter Lawwell made Boruc his priority signing this winter with the Pole's contract set to expire next year.
But he had to fend off registered interest from some European giants.
Boruc has been outstanding since arriving from Legia Warsaw in 2005.
And his stunning performances in the Champions League saw his market value soar to around s12m.
The Italian media recently voted Boruc the third best keeper in the world and Milan were reportedly ready to open talks with the player's representatives.
The 27-year-old threatened to quit Parkhead earlier in the season using a FIFA ruling but the big-money deal has persuaded him to stay put.
