May 11 2008 David Rodgers Reports
EDINBURGH ended their Magners League campaign on a high with an easy bonus point win over the weakened Welsh side. Tries from Ben Gissing, Andy Turnbull, Ally Hogg and Mike Blair sealed the impressive victory for Andy Robinson's men.
Mahonri Schwalger and Dafydd James both ran home for Scarlets who slipped to their fourth defeat in a row.
Llanelli had to make do without seven internationals including Stephen Jones, Mark Jones, and Dwayne Peel.
Caretaker coach Paul Moriarty was in charge for a second week following Phil Davies' shock departure but couldn't stop his side slipping to another sorry loss.
Scarlets started well and after good approach work by centre Gavin Evans, Deacon Manu put front Schwalger in.
The hooker used his bulk to crash over with outside-half and Rhys Priestland convering from wide out but Edinburgh fought back impressively.
Ben Cairns put Gissing through a gap and the big second row found the line from 30 metres out for Andrew MacRae to convert.
And minutes before half-time a fine long floated pass from outside-half Phil Godman found Turnbull in space for the second try.
Edinburgh's grip tightened three minutes into the second half when skipper Hogg crashed over after good work by Blair.
And four minutes later the Scots had a bonus point with Blair grabbing the fourth.
David Blair's penalty on 70 minutes extended the visitors' lead before James ran home Llanelli's second try.
