OLD Pappy Punter always drummed it into his brood that a mug's bet meant exactly what it said on the tin.

Hammering two cuddies across the card because they had Red in their name or steaming into Henry The Eighth on the sole premise that's the name of your second cousin's third oldest daughter's boy.

Seldom works, of course, but there are exceptions to every rule and yours truly and the boys from the back room proved it at Hamilton Park last week.

Big Shug loves football and let's just say his favourite stadium is possibly out in the east end of Glasgow.

So when he spotted King Kenny - part owned by agent Willie McKay - running in the 8.30 it was a case of get in therewith both feet.

Lee Enstone duly guided the nag home at a tasty 5-2 and it was drinks all round for the lads with green chartreuse a popular choice.

Pappy may have been turning in his grave but family loyalty goes right out the window when a winner comes along.
