THE rains that washed away all but Kempton yesterday brought a bonus for Neil Callan who rerouted from Haydock to power Hattan home.
The application of a visor to Clive Brittain's 16-1 shot - a useful performer on the all-weather - sparked a return to form in the September Stakes.
Joint favourite Many Volumes attempted to make all the running but Callan, replacing Martin Dwyer, conjured a decent sprint finish from his mount and Hattan got up from Illustrious Blue by a neck.
Callan said: "He has been placed in Group 1s and is a genuine Group horse so this was a good effort carrying a 3lb penalty."
The Sirenia Stakes saw 6-4 favourite Elnawin oblige in a three-way photo finish. Pat Dobbs switched to challenge at the furlong marker but had trouble with his reins and was all out to get past Square Eddie and Weatherstaff by a head and the same.
Winning trainer Richard Hannon said: "Pat would ride them bareback. This is an improving horse but will be difficult to place."
AT Longchamps today, Aidan O'Brien's Henrythenavigator will face a stiff test in the Group I Prix Du Moulin.
Freddie Head's star filly Goldikova takes a step back in trip while it's the opposite for Richard Hannon's rapidly improving Paco Boy.
However, English and Irish Guineas winner Henry should have enough ammo to make it five Group 1 wins on the spin this season
