Jolly Good Show By Bajan

BLUE BAJAN left the handicapper red faced as he sluiced home in the big race of the day at Haydock.

The classy novice looked thrown in with only 10st 8lbs in the £75,000 Swinton Hurdle.

Punters were not slow to pick up the vibes and Andy Turnell's charge was hammered down to 4-1 jolly.

Backers never had a moment's worry in the 24-runner contest as Graham Lee on Bajan lobbed along just off the pace.

Lee asked him to take closer order in the home straight but not keen to hit the front too soon waited patiently until after the last before pressing the button.

Blue Bajan found an instant change of pace to shoot eight lengths clear of 14-1 chance I'm So Lucky with Ellerslie Tom and Dreamy Gent filling the minor places.

Turnell said: "He jumps so much better on this good ground."

Lingield's Derby Trial turned into a damp squib after the defection of certain jolly Curtain Call because of the fast going.

The race ended with a 1-2 for Aidan O'Brien, Johnny Murtagh booting home 6-4 shot Alessandro Volta from King of Rome (16-1) with favourite Campanologist in third.

SCOTS trainer Linda Perratt landed Haydock's Spring Trophy with Appalachian Trail at 16-1.
