Last-lap glory gifts Lew pole

LEWIS HAMILTON snatched pole position for today's Canadian Grand Prix in a dramatic last lap.

The world championship leader pushed his McLaren to the limit in Montreal to clock 1:17.886 and deny Sauber's Robert Kubica a first pole.

Polish star Kubica reckoned he'd done enough with a lap of 1:18.498 but Hamilton wasn't to be denied.

The Brit said: "What a fantastic day. This morning was tricky for everyone - the track was slippery - but we stayed positive.

"I had two laps left at the end but in the first I was nearly wiped out at turn one so I had to make sure the last one was good."

Ferrari's world champion Kimi Raikkonen will start third.
