Martin Laird looks to make splash in his home country after exile to PGA tour

Scots exile Martin Laird looks set to be confirmed for a dream debut in front of his home crowd when the Barclays Scottish Open invites list is unveiled this week.

The Glasgow golfer has been on the PGA Tour in America for the last two years and is not well known to Scottish golf fans.

Now the 26-year-old, the only Scot competing in the US Open at Bethpage, is desperate to make his mark at Loch Lomond.

And tournament chiefs look set to make that wish come true by granting Arizona-based Laird one of 10 special invites available for the event that starts on July 9.

That would cap a fantastic homecoming as he'll also compete in The Open at Turnberry the following week after claiming his place at the USA's international qualifying event in Texas.

Laird said: "I know there is a meeting to decide the Scottish Open invitations and it could be a dream two weeks for me."
