Euan Put Me On The Write Track

American Golf Where Eagles Dare

DELIGHTED Leanne Johnston has thanked MailSport golf writer Euan McLean for inspiring her to shoot an incredible eagle.

The Bearsden girl was a guest of friend Bill Lumsden at our Where Eagles Dare Final two years ago.

And when she spoke about dreaming of scoring an eagle herself, our man Euan laid down a challenge to the 33-year-old.

She recently managed the feat atWindyhill Golf Club - thanks to the SAME driver pal Bill used to earn his place in the 2006 final.

Leanne will now be on her way to St Andrews this year and said: "Euan challenged me to get an eagle so I could enter and it has been my dream ever since.

"I finally managed it in the Ladies Open at Windyhill.

"On the 11th hole - a 238-yard uphill par four - I hitmy best drive of the day, greening it around 10 feet away and pin high.

"Standing over the putt I was thinking how much I'd love an eagle but itwas a tricky across-slope putt.

"I trusted the stroke and was so happy when it went in.

"The driver I was using was borrowed from my friend Bill.

"My driver was one of the clubs deemed illegal by the R&A in 2008 so I took his for the tournament."

Leannewon't have any problems with her driver now as she scoops a custom-fitted Nicklaus DPT Draw Back club courtesy of our partners at American Golf.

She also lands a place at our grand final and it's not too late for you to join her.

We need your scorecard signed by an official along with the completed form and a note telling the story of your dream moment.

Send entries to: Where Eagles Dare, Sunday Mail Sport, One Central Quay, Glasgow, G3 8DA.
