You're covered for fun in the tented village

A FAMILY day out at Loch Lomond is about much more than just world-class golf - there's a host of fun off-course activities laid on in the new improved Tented Village.

The spectators' social area at the Barclays Scottish Open has been expanded to cram in even more entertainment including an extensive Golf Activities Zone packed full of interactive delights.

As well as the ever-popular putting challenge punters can try their hand at Nintendo Wii golf on a big screen - or tackle Troon's famous Postage Stamp hole in a nearest the pin contest on a state-of-the-art simulator.

Tuition

Parents can also enjoy a well-earned breather as kids get stuck into their first experience of the game at the Scottish Golf Union's Clubgolf chipping area.

And seasoned players have a golden chance to iron out those irritating problems with their swing.

There will be three video analysis bays where you can record your swing and benefit from expert tuition to help pinpoint any areas that need work.

At the end of the session every pupil will be given a DVD copy so he or she can go home and study their weaknesses in the weeks to come.

Golf giants Ping will be on hand again with their club testing facilities and cutting-edge computer fitting system.

All proceeds from the action-packed Activities Zone will go to Loch Lomond Golf Club's favourite good cause, the children's hospice charity CHAS.

Last year they raised £23,000 and organisers are hoping the new-look facility will ensure that figure is topped this time.

Spectators who just want to get away from it all and relax in the stunning surroundings of the Bonnie Banks can find sanctuary at the Massage & Glow stand where therapists offer an indulgent back rub for tired muscles.

Hungry crowds have a wide range of choices when it comes to food - from the Laurent Perrier Champagne and Seafood Tent to Subway sandwich bar, traditional carvery or good old-fashioned fish and chips.

Or if you just want a quick refreshment pitstop, local whisky distillers Ballantines will serve up their top tipple at the Leave An Impression Bar along with a range of beers, wines and soft drinks.

Away from the main drag, fans further out on the course can also lap up the fun at the Highland Village beside the 12th hole.

That's where bunkered magazine will be running a putting challenge - hole out to win a prize. But even those who miss the target won't leave empty handed as everyone taking part will get a free copy of the magazine's latest issue.

Of course the main attraction will always be the fantastic golf on show from big names like Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Colin Montgomerie and reigning champ Gregory Havret.

But don't miss the added spice these fantastic activities can bring to your day.
