Scots stay in seniors hunt

SCOTS Sam Torrance, Sandy Lyle and Bill Longmuir all made the cut in the US Senior PGA championship at Oak Hill in New York but are well off the pace set by home hope Tom Purtzer who had a 67 for a level-par 140.

Torrance added a two-over 74 to his opening 76 for a 10-over aggregate of 150 and was joined on that mark by Anglo-Scot Longmuir who also posted a 74.

Seniors Tour rookie Lyle spilled three shots over his closing four holes in a 76 but survived the cut on the 152 limit.

Former Scottish PGA champions John Chillas (155) and Ross Drummond (156) both made early exits.
