RISING star Callum Macaulay reckons daydreaming about Augusta cost him his chance of Amateur Championship glory last year.
Now Scotland's top amateur returns this week determined to atone by winning the prestigious Lytham Trophy.
The Tulliallan ace (left) was one up on Australian Tim Stewart in the semi-final at Royal Lytham when his mind wandered to the US Masters call-up that beckons for the amateur champ.
He was beaten on the last hole and confesses losing his focus was the turning point.
Callum, 23, said: "I started thinking of what winning would mean. Thoughts of playing at Augusta and The Open entered my head and cost me dearly."
Meanwhile, Macaulay yesterday teamed up with fellow Scot Wallace Booth to earn a foursomes victory against Asia-Pacific in the Bonallack Trophy at Valderrama, Spain.
Europe's amateurs now lead 13.5 to 6.5 heading into today's singles matches.
