JUSTIN ROSE admits he still has to stop himself going round Augusta like an awestruck tourist - despite almost winning The Masters last year.
The Englishman pushed champion Zach Johnson all the way until a drive into trees on the 17th killed his challenge for a first Major.
He finished tied for fifth, three shots off Johnson's one-over winning score. Now Rose is back at Augusta looking to do even better on a course he believes suits his game perfectly.
Yet despite having twice led The Masters after 36 holes and coming so close last year, he had to come out a week early to get the childhood thrill of just being there out of his system. Rose (right) said: "Unlike a regular tournament I go to Augusta a week before on the Tuesday orWednesday just to get the wow factor over with.
"It's still a place you can be in awe of. So I like to get there early and play a couple of rounds just to re-acquaint myself with the shots that will be needed, especially the short game.
"You have to chip the ball well on tight lies so I'll practise that.
"The other shot I like to work on is drawing the ball because quite a few holes require you to get around the corner and have a go.
"That's wheremy preparation differs from other events because I'm focusing on specific shots.
"In 2007 I had a great chance to win. Even though I started the final round terribly I believed I could bounce back and get into contention.
"The 16th was a key hole where I hit a great six iron to two feet. That was the shot I was most proud of because I needed a birdie "Iwas surprised at how calm I felt and thought I was going to do something special but the 17th cost me.
"I learned a lot about myself though and feel I have what it takes to win Majors from here."
