Scots Must Not Be Left Powerless

SCOTLAND can become a green superpower.

Our enormous potential for wind and wave energy can help the fight against climate change and add to the country's wealth.

Alex Salmond claims that potential is being harmed by energy firms here having to pay tens of millions of pounds to provide electricity to the south.

Meanwhile, firms in England are receiving subsidies. That might seem unfair but everyone, including the accountants, needs to look at the bigger picture.

Energy firms are not going to invest in wind or sea power in Scotland if it's cheaper to do so elsewhere.

Scotland faces losing out to our rivals in Europe unless we act - and act soon.

Oil in the North Sea will dry up eventually. So it's vital we harness wind and energy power.

The SNP at Holyrood and Labour at Westminster don't often see eye to eye. But for the sake of Scotland's future - and the planet - they must get round a table and start talking.

They have to work together. This issue can't become a political football.

Otherwise, our future will be left blowing in the wind.
