Craig's Pole Position

DUNDEE UNITED have opened talks in a bid to extend the deal of Polish star Grzegorz Szamotulski.

The Arabs keeper has made a stunning start to the season with four shut-outs in his first five SPL games.

And with his current contract only stretching to January he's attracting major interest from south of the border.

But United have first call on him and will put together a tempting package in a bid to make Szamotuslski (right) stay.

Boss Craig Levein said: "He's been fantastic, top drawer. He has long spells of nothing to do then he'll pull off a wonder save.

"We needed him as cover when Lukasz Zaluska broke his metatarsal after one game of pre-season. I spoke to the same agent who'd brought in Lukasz and he said he had someone in mind.

"When a guy has 16 caps for Poland with Artur Boruc, JerzyDudek and Arsenal's Lukasz Fabianski all there then he must be of a certain quality.

"Even then it was still a bit of a gamble - but from day one it worked for both of us so I'm hoping to work something out."
