Sky high fuel costs are real villians, not the airlines

JOHN BOYLE will be devastated at the situation created by the collapse of Zoom, the airline he ran with brother Hugh.

He will hate leaving hundreds of passengers stranded at home and abroad.

I was at John's wedding in Bermuda in June...and I know he will have done all he could to avoid ruining folk's hard-earned hols.

That, of course, is no comfort to those stuck at airports with their plans in ruins.

The price of fuel is a huge part of this and I fear Zoom will not be the last airline to fold.

Within six months the price of filling a jet to fly to Canada went from £50,000 to £150,000.

Only the airline giants will weather this storm.
