THERE is nothing like a strike by council workers for us all to sit up and notice the great, essential and useful jobs that they do.
From collecting our rubbish to cleaning and looking after our schools, to looking after our elderly and housebound - they are never fully appreciated or rewarded by us.
These workers on low wages are going to be the hardest hit by the credit crunch.
With food prices and fuel rises, margins are tight all the time for these workers.
They are not moaning because they now have two instead of three foreign holidays, or worrying that their £400,000 house isn't rising in value the way it was.
These are workers who deserve a decent wage and I hope the councils around the country make them a priority.
