THE success of Chris Hoy and all the other cyclists, athletes and sailors have given us all a lift.
While I don't have the urge to buy a bike, it moves me to tears when I see someone win a medal because I know what that achievement means.
I was contacted last week by an old colleague, Margot Wells (wife of sprinter Allan). I hadn't heard from her in years.
Margot taught PE at Firrhill High, Edinburgh, and I was a drama teacher.
It was just when Allan was going to the Olympics, so I heard all about his training and sacrifices. I got to wear his gold medal one day and I felt fantastic.
The young kids on their BMXs, on the race track or in the swimming pool will be inspired by this year's Olympians.
I remember going to see my first show and thinking, 'I want to do that'. It gave me the notion that I could be an actor or singer.
I hope the Olympics have done that for young Scots in the run-up to London 2012 and Glasgow 2014.
