Music Box hit the right note

I OPENED the Music Box - a state-of-the-art music and performing centre - at Stevenson College in Edinburgh last week... obviously Princess Anne wisnae available.

It's a brilliant place - full of light and enthusiasm as well as a lot of blood, sweat and tears for the people who spent years getting the money together.

An investment like this in an area like Sighthill is wonderful. There is so much untapped talent in Scotland...but it's not all about the limelight.

Showbusiness would collapse without composers, lighting guys, sound technicians and crews the punters never see.

It's a huge industry and a brilliant facility like this is tapping into that great resource - our people.

Much as I enjoyed the occasion it was shocking to see so many faces from my past.

I used to teach in Firhill, near Stevenson, and many of my ex-pupils were at the opening.

You realise you are getting on a bit when your expupils start talking about their own weans who are now 20.
