THE winner-takes-all clash between France and Italy last Tuesday didn't just bring us two sets of terrific players, dramatic action and the demise of a football superpower.

It also treated us to the inspiring, rousing and stimulating national anthems of both countries.

France's La Marseillaise and the Italians' L'Inno di Mameli are the perfect type of soul-stirring songs needed to fire you up for battle. God Save the Queen and Flower of Scotland just don't cut it do they?
