Taylor strikes a new Low

IT'S a sad day when UEFA have to roll out their general secretary to praise a referee for apparently getting a decision right.

Former SFA chief David Taylor stumbled through an explanation of why Ruud van Nistelrooy's opener for Holland v Italy stood.

His implication that fans and players are stupid because they don't know the rules was arrogant and condescending. Even Germany's Joachim Low (left) said he's unaware of any rule change.

It all boils down to officials' interpretation.

Had the linesman flagged offside and disallowed the goal that would also have been justified by his bosses.
