Gerry McCann returns to Algarve flat where daughter Madeleine disappeared

GERRY MCCANN yesterday made an emotional first trip back to the Algarve holiday flat where daughter Madeleine vanished.

The dad-of-three was distraught as he let himself into apartment 5A where he left the three-year-old sleeping for a TV reconstruction of her disappearance.

Gerry, 40, of Rothley, Leicestershire, spent an hour inside the bedroom Madeleine was last seen in nearly two years ago.

Afterwards he retraced the few painful steps between the flat and the tapas bar where they enjoyed snacks with friends on the fateful night.

The surprise visit came after Gerry and wife Kate agreed to let a film crew from Channel 4's Cutting Edge record a reconstruction of their last night with Madeleine..
