500 people stuck as Thai protesters attack

HUNDREDS of Brits could be stranded for days after protesters attacked riot police at Bangkok airport last night.

Anti-government protesters took over the Thai airport on Tuesday, halting all flights and trapping over 500 Britons.

They want the government of Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat to resign.

Yesterday a 2000-strong police cordon around the main terminal was broken by gun-wielding demonstrators who trashed their vehicles.

Many tourists are staying at beach resorts until order is restored. Travellers who are due to fly to Thailand may be able to delay or cancel holidays.

Travel association Abta said: "We could see the situation change rapidly."
