New skin cancer warning for women over 30

MORE women in their 30s are contracting a deadly skin cancer than ever before.

There's been a 50 per cent rise in those getting malignant melanoma - caused by over exposure to the sun - in just six years, compared with a 40 per cent UK-wide rise.

Cheaper holidays and tanning salons had been blamed for the surge.

But researchers fear 30-something women who did not use sunscreen when young are now getting the disease.

Cancer Research UK found women are prone to get the disease on their legs or feet, while men get it on backs or chests. They say women who wear flip-flops should put sunscreen on their feet.

There were 847 cases of malignant melanoma in 2005 in Scotland - made up of 454 women and 393 men.
