Lewis Hamilton involved in yacht race crash

FORMULA 1 star Lewis Hamilton was involved in a crash yesterday - at a yacht race.

Hamilton had joined the all-star crew of triple Olympic medallist Ben Ainslie and Alex Thomson on the Open 60 Hugo Boss for the Round the Island Race off the Isle of Wight.

But before the race was underway, they collided with the yacht Farr 45 Atomic. Their vessel was damaged but continued the race.

A spokesman said: "Lewis was sat out on the weather rail, clearly enjoying himself."

In the Extreme 40s section, last year's winner, record-breaker Dame Ellen MacArthur was forced to abandon the race when her main sail broke.

She vowed to be back for the 2009 event.
