AT least 12 people have died after 500 school pupils stampeded at an end-of-term disco.
Youths rushed for the exits during a police raid on the Mexico City club.
Three officers and nine students were killed, with at least 13 others injured.
Dozens of riot police had to control sobbing relatives and pals at the scene.
Shoes and T-shirts were strewn over the dance floor, while bodies covered with sheets lay by the club's entrance.
Police went to the News Divine club to check reports of drugs and alcohol being sold to under-18s. The venue only had one entrance and emergency exit but this was blocked by cases of beer.
Chief Joel Ortega said: "The exit was too small and people died of asphyxia."
Police detained 39 people, including the owner.
