Footballer held as two children killed in motorway crash

A FOOTBALL star was behind bars last night on suspicion of killing two children in a car crash.

Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Luke McCormick, 24, was arrested after his Range Rover collided with a Toyota Previa.

Two brothers, aged eight and 10, died after the smash on the M6 in Staffordshire yesterday morning.

One boy died at the scene and the other died in hospital.

Their 37-year-old father, who was driving the vehicle, was being treated in hospital last night for serious injuries.

Three other passengers in the Toyota - a man, 49, and two boys, aged 15 and eight - were treated for minor injuries.

Uninjured McCormick was arrested at the scene and placed in police custody.

Championship club Plymouth Argyle said: "The club is aware of an incident involving one of our players. As the incident is subject to police inquiries the club feels it would be inappropriate to comment "
